Shani Rhys James has had a longstanding, increasingly successful and close association with the gallery since we first showed her work at the London Art Fair in 1992. Shortly afterwards we sold an important large painting of hers to the National Museum of Wales, the first of many acquisitions of her work by the NMW and other prestigious public collections. Since then we have exhibited Shani’s work many times at art fairs in the UK and abroad, and in numerous exhibitions, with this latest exhibition marking her 13th solo show with us.
It has been a true pleasure to see Shani’s work develop over the years and to see her reputation soar, to the point that many now regard her as Wales’ most important living artist and, indeed, as her many awards and prizes testify, one of Britain’s leading figurative artists.
It is entirely appropriate and a great privilege to have this exhibition of Shani’s new paintings as an important part of the gallery’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
There is a fully illustrated exhibition catalogue with an essay by Ruth Millington - contact the gallery to purchase.
