JOHN ELWYN, JOHN KNAPP-FISHER, PETER PRENDERGAST, GWILYM PRICHARD & SIR KYFFIN WILLIAMS
The tradition of landscape painting in Wales is famously strong, stretching back to 18th century artists Richard Wilson and his pupil Thomas Jones. This exhibition focuses on five leading Welsh landscape painters of the latter half of the 20th century. In the work of neo-romantic John Elwyn, the almost monochromatic John Knapp-Fisher, expressionist Peter Prendergast, fauve-influenced Gwilym Prichard and master of the palette knife Sir Kyffin Williams, that tradition lived on in robust health.
This exhibition of 30 paintings, most appropriately, forms part of the gallery's 30th anniversary year celebrations.
