Richard Barrett was born in Cardiff in 1963. Although now based in Yorkshire, much of the inspiration for his work comes from spending time exploring the Welsh coastline and mountains and he has established a large and loyal following for his work in Wales.
Walking the landscape and sketching provide the starting point. Richard's process of painting is intuitive with layers of paint applied energetically using brushes, palette knives and rags. Texture plays an important part - scratching, mark making and glazing are often incorporated into the finished work. The seascapes and landscapes that emerge have an allusive, abstracted quality.
The latest exhibition shows the artist's continuing fascination with the mountains and coastline of Wales. There are seventeen wonderfully atmospheric new paintings in this, his second solo show at Martin Tinney Gallery. All the works are for sale.
In addition to the online exhibition below, all the works may be seen in the gallery by appointment. For all sales enquiries and to make an appointment please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
