Born in 1938, David Woodford trained at the West Sussex College of Art, Leeds College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. He has lived in Wales for a number of years, first at Dinas Mawddwy and later at Nant Ffrancon near Bethesda where he still resides. He supports himself and his family through his paintings and has exhibited throughout Britain, being a joint winner of the National Eisteddfod Fine Art prize and is a Royal Cambrian Academician.
His work in represented in many public and private collections including HRH The Prince of Wales, The British Arts Council, The Welsh Arts Council, The National Museum of Wales, The National Library of Wales, The Welsh National Assembly and seven thousand original works in private collections.
