Wilf Roberts(1941-2016) - Newly Discovered Works
18 August 2018 - 2 September 2018
Oriel Tegfryn, which has had a long association with the late Anglesey-based artist Wilf Roberts, is pleased to present an exhibition of his newly-discovered sketches and works on paper, and a selection of oil paintings, all from the artist’s estate.
The sketches – many done en plein air – are, by their very nature, fresh and vigorous, and demonstrate the artist’s deft, light touch, with washes of colour making them vibrant and vivid. These works represent the inspiration and the groundwork that the artist needed.
In addition, the exhibition will include a collection of outstanding oils displaying Wilf’s characteristic themes, palette and execution.
This will be the first time that this fine collection of works on paper is available to view – and, along with the oil paintings - to purchase, and Oriel Tegfryn is delighted to host such an exciting event.
Wilf Roberts – A Brief Biography
Born in 1941, Wilf Roberts was raised in the Mynydd Bodafon area of Anglesey. In 1962 he moved to Croydon where he taught art and studied part time at Croydon Art College.
In 1974 he returned to Anglesey to work in Local Government and Education and, although not exhibiting for many years, he continued to paint, donating work, illustrating and designing posters for national charities, until retiring in 1996 to devote his time to painting.
His work is held in public and private collections in The Hague, Paris, New York, Australia and the UK. Wilf died at his Anglesey home in September 2016.
