TOM GERRARD (1923 - 1976) - REDISCOVERED
20 October 2017 - 12 November 2017
The Tegfryn Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition of works by rediscovered Welsh artist Tom Gerrard.
Tom Gerrard was born on Anglesey in 1923 and retained a love of the island throughout his life. He became a senior civil servant but devoted much of his spare time to painting. He was prolific and his work sold well.
His paintings were much admired by the public and his artist contemporaries. Sir Kyffin Williams was a friend and a great admirer of his paintings, with each buying work from the other. His subject matter was predominantly Anglesey which he portrayed in sketches, watercolours and oils. He exhibited widely throughout England and Wales and his work is held in many collections. In 1975 his work was selected for the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition. He died in 1976 at the relatively young age of 52.
This exhibition of approximately 30 works includes oil paintings and pen and ink drawings from the 1950s to the 1970s. The work comes from the artist's estate and includes many paintings which have never been previously for sale. This is an unique opportunity to acquire works by this outstanding Welsh artist, whose reputation is sure to appreciate over the coming years.
A fully illustrated catalogue is available.
