Dick Chappell b.1954
Dick was born in the Derbyshire Peak District in 1954 and post schooling moved to London to study Painting at Goldsmith’s College of Art. Relocating to the Clydach Valley in 1988 brought about a significant change of subject matter. This area, like Derbyshire, has a rich Pastoral and Post Industrial landscape which together with the coastlines of SW England and Wales, provide the key reference points from which his subsequent paintings have evolved.
In addition to maintaining a professional studio practice and regularly exhibiting throughout the past four decades, he also held careers, initially in conservation with the British Museum and later through teaching art theory and practice. He now operates a full time studio overlooking the Black Mountains.
His work is held by many private collectors.
‘To use art as a means of processing experience is a privileged activity’.
